‘Tis the Season (For Christmas Comedies!)

(Background: WPClipart )

It’s that wonderful time of year when lights are glowing, cookies are baking, and Christmas colors are everywhere! It’s also the time of year to spread some cheer—and what better way than by watching Christmas comedies?

Last year, I put together a list of five favorite Christmas specials. This year, I’m sharing five of my favorite holiday comedies:

While You Were Sleeping
“He would get these far-off looks in his eyes and he would say, ‘Life doesn’t always turn out the way you plan.’ I just wish I’d realized at the time, he was talking about my life.” - Lucy Moderatz

What it’s about: After saving the life of the man she’s in love with—who hardly knows she exists—Lucy is mistaken for his fiancée and finds herself reluctant to tell his family the truth.

Why it’s a favorite:
I’ve watched this movie every Christmastime for as long as I can remember (it’s possibly my favorite movie ever). It’s funny and sweet, with a cast of characters who are easy to love and relate to.

Elf
“The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.” - The Code of the Elves

What it’s about: After discovering he’s not a North Pole Elf after all, Buddy sets out on a quest to find his real father and bring a little Christmas cheer to the world.

Why it’s a favorite: This movie always makes me laugh. And Buddy the Elf is me every December.

Christmas With the Kranks
“We skip Christmas.” - Luther Krank

What it’s about: With their daughter away from home for the holidays, Luther and Nora Krank decide to skip Christmas and go on a cruise instead, much to the shock of everyone they know.

Why it’s a favorite: Like Elf, Christmas With the Kranks is a hilarious movie. The holidays are being celebrated and enjoyed all around the titular characters—while they are trying to avoid them—which makes for plenty of awkward encounters and ruined plans.

The Santa Clause
“What if I don’t buy any of this Santa Clause thing? What if I choose not to believe it?” - Scott Calvin

What it’s about: After Santa falls off his roof, Scott Calvin puts on the iconic red coat, only to learn that it makes him the new Santa—a job he doesn’t want.

Why it’s a favorite: I love the comedy of this one and the unique aspect of there being different Santas. It’s a fun, classic comedy full of heart and laughter.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas
“Why, for year after year I’ve put up with it now. I must stop this Christmas from coming... but how? I mean... in what way?” - The Grinch

What it’s about: The Grinch has watched every year as Whoville celebrates Christmas with over-the-top festivities, and he’s finally reached his limit. This year, he’ll take away what makes their celebrations so dear.

Why it’s a favorite: The animated How the Grinch Stole Christmas is one of my all-time favorite Christmas specials, and the live-action version is just as much fun.

What are your favorite Christmas comedies?
