Jane the Virgin: 2x07 "Chapter Twenty-Nine" Recap

Stupid feels and stupid Rafael and stupid Michael. Ugh. Let me explain why everything is stupid.
source
So we start off with a flashback of teenage Jane babysitting a little boy and not having a very fun time because when she goes to take a call, he locks her out. That happens a lot to Jane. We jump forward to Jane and Rafael looking for a babysitter, and Jane is a bit hesitant about leaving Mateo with anyone. But she can't concentrate on that because her grad school Christmas party is tonight and Dr. Bolton is going to be there, a TED Talk speaker/author/person/something. Anyway, Jane wants Dr. Bolton to be her adviser. At the same time, Xo is wondering about Rogelio and the Hombres Locos because she made a theme song for it but hasn't heard back from him. We're interrupted by Abuela, ready to go Black Friday shopping.
source
We join the crew in target, where they parade through the store, Rafael fumbling behind of them. But then Jane sees Michael in the store. She tries to catch up with him, but he's not interested. Jane is noticeably disappointed, but she shakes it off at her house as she gets ready for the Christmas party. When she drops Mateo off at the hotel, she notices Petra gathering ice. Petra, rather suspiciously, refuses help from Jane and rushes inside her room with the ice, which we find out is to keep Ivan's body cool.

Later that night, Rogelio and Xo talk about her theme song, and he admits he loves it but also admits there are legal issues with Hombres Locos. Meanwhile, Jane is talking to Wesley, readying herself to talk to Dr. Bolton, but has to wait until Professor Chavez clears out, believing he hates her. When he does move, Jane dives in, only to drunkenly throw a plate of deviled eggs, which lands on Dr. Bolton's dress.

Back at home, sipping coffee, Jane writes a note apologizing to Dr. Bolton. At the same time, Rogelio talks with the Mad Men guy, and he doesn't get the legal approval for his show. We then jump to Michael at Nadine's funeral. Apparently, she got shot after trying to set up a meeting with Sin Rostro.
source
We go to Jane, who is setting the note down in Dr. Bolton's office, finds out the note is wet from a spilled water bottle. Jane tries to re-write it, but then Dr. Bolton walks in on Jane looking for a pen, and the entire thing looks really suspicious. Jane is just about to leave, when a fuse blows and Dr. Bolton worries about how to keep her milk cool (she's pumping). This gives Jane the connections she needs and Dr. Bolton offers to look at her work.

Later, the crew interviews babysitters at the hotel. But after they finally find someone, the mood is dampened when the family learns of Hombres Locos's failure, and Rogelio's financial troubles because he invested everything he had into the show. Jane and Xo figure out a budget for Rogelio, but he's too prideful to give in. But then Petra calls Jane, asking if she wants to have lunch. (My Jane and Petra friendship wishes are coming true!) Jane agrees and then must be on her way to meet Dr. Bolton. At the same time, Wesley lies to Jane about where he is and really goes to an alcoholic recovery group for more info about Luisa.

Then Jane meets with Dr. Bolton. She relays all of the crazy stuff she's been through, and Dr. Bolton thinks it would make a great book and knows a publisher who might like the story. So, I'm going to stop here for a sec and give a mini rant. I was really hoping once Jane finished her book they'd maybe realistically go into the publishing process (querying agents, the waiting game, being on submission, revisions, etc.). You don't randomly just make a connection with someone and they say they "know a publisher." That's a literary agent's job, which no matter how great Dr. Bolton is, she is not. But seeing as how the supposed book isn't written yet, and it was an offhand comment, I'm going to hold out hope. Because I would love to see Jane struggle to get published because I struggle to get published, every writer does. And they've realistically depicted a lot of things in Jane's life, why not this? Okay, rant over.

Meanwhile, Wesley has "befriended" Luisa, and she relays all the Sin Rostro stuff and also tells him her mom committed suicide. When she reveals it was a closed casket funeral, Wesley becomes suspicious. At the same time, Dr. Bolton advises Jane to turn the volume up in her writing. Rogelio is busy with his own problems and doesn't particularly like the new role as a cowboy his producers have offered him. But when Xo shows up with news that they want to use her theme song on Esteban's show, it lightens his mood. Or does it?

Later that night, Jane struggles to apply Dr. Bolton's notes in her writing. She puts that out of her mind, though to have lunch with Petra, who eventually cancels because she has to babysit the body in their hotel room. We jump to Michael talking to his cop boss and discover he was never really fired. They set it up so he could go undercover with Nadine. So, I guess his life wasn't completely ruined. Good for him.

We go to Jane and Rafael at the hotel, where they're about to leave Mateo with a babysitter so they can go on their date. Jane is very controlling though and scares the nanny off with her instructions. Meanwhile, Rogelio goes to Esteban's set, angry because he believes they bought Xo's theme song only to not use it at the last minute just to get back at him. This was not what happened though, but Rogelio has now given Esteban the idea, which he plans to instill. Xiomara is angry, of course.
source
Jane goes back home to write instead and decides to go back to professor Chavez's notes. We go back to Michael, where we discover Michael found a hub of what they thought was Sin Rostro drugs but was really Mootor's hub. Nice and stuff, but then we're back to Jane, where she goes to professor Chavez and admits she want him as an adviser instead because he can really help her grow. But then we discover a text meant for Wesley with some unkind words about her Professor was actually sent to Chavez. He, of course, declines her request.

Meanwhile, Petra and Magda try to get Ivan out of the hotel room by wheeling his body out on a wheelchair. When Jane interrupts them, Petra has to stall and say she never really wanted to be friends with Jane. A bit fazed, Jane goes to Rogelio's set with the rest of the family, and Rogelio comes to a realization, as well as Jane. She decides to sign up for Professor Chavez's class again, despite not receiving any academic credit. With her determination, Chavez decides to mentor her instead.

We skip to Jane and Rafael trying to do date night again, and Jane successfully leaves Mateo with the sitter. Rafael takes Jane to a house he was planning on buying. He's not asking her to move in yet, but he does want her opinion. Just as they are about to kiss, Jane gets a text from Lina and finds the article Wesley wrote, titled, "The Curse of the Solanos." Rafael is obviously frustrated but thankfully doesn't blame Jane. On the plus side, Jane is liking the nanny now.

At the same time, Rogelio is moving in to a small apartment, realizing that with family, he has all the riches he needs. Then producers call Xo, saying they want to use her song after all. We discover Rogelio pleaded with Esteban and shot a few scenes as the jester in his show, all for Xo. So things are good for them, but then we go to Petra and Magda who are burying Ivan's body. Also on the downside are Jane and Rafael. When Jane goes to check on the nanny cam she left, she finds a rather disturbing scene of Rafael trying to shush Eric Wu, the guy who confessed to the police about Michael, who is trying to confront him about Nadine's death. We find out he paid him to go to the police about Michael. My trust in Rafael was then shattered. Back when Michael thought he turned him in, I never thought he did, even when Jane doubted. This has really shaken me. My ship. My feels. My...aaggh!
source
We then go to Michael and Susanna, reading the Solano article, and finding the bit about Luisa's mom possibly being alive. Through some deducing, they come to believe Luisa's mother is Mootor. At the same time, Luisa goes to her mom's grave to open the casket, and we find it empty.

So, we're going on hiatus until December 14th. I don't know if I can wait that long, but I will have to. *Cries.* What did you guys think of this week's episode? Everyone have a great Thanksgiving, and I'll see you with another recap in two weeks!
