Fandom of the Month Club Unboxing: June 2017

Hello, everyone! This is the monthly segment "Fandom of the Month Club Unboxing"! Fandom of the Month Club is a mailing service where you pay a monthly subscription fee to receive a box full of geeky goodies. I've been subscribed since May 2016 and I have received Sherlock, Lord of the Rings, Wizard of Oz, and Harry Potter-themed boxes, among others. Everything in the boxes is exclusive to Fandom of the Month Club and it's a surprise every time! This is a geek girl's dream.

This month's box is Jurassic Park/Jurassic World-themed and it includes:

• Jurassic Park zipper pouch
• DNA magnet
• T-Rex bones necklace 
• Blue key chain 
• T-Rex earrings 
• Pterodactyl studs 
• "Amber" ring

Jurassic Park Zipper Pouch:

This cloth zipper pouch has a simple loop for holding. It's the perfect size for change, credit cards, cash, and other small handbag items. This one has the infamous Jurassic Park logo on it. The material is shiny and crisp.

DNA Magnet:

This 3 1/2" by 2" magnet is perfect for hanging pictures or important notes on your fridge or whiteboard. It has a glossy finish, which will protect it from water and stains. This is the DNA strand from the Jurassic Park informational video explaining about how the scientists managed to bring back the dinosaurs. I actually didn't even remember this video until I looked it up. I haven't seen this film in so long, but it looks exactly like the little cartoon DNA from the video!

T-Rex Bones Necklace:

Now this I can't forget. This necklace is based on the skeleton found in the main hall in Jurassic Park! The necklace is made with gold-colored metal, so it's close to the color of bone while still being fashionable. However, I personally don't like wearing bones for jewelry, so I'm not sure if I'm going to wear this, but I can't deny that the details of the necklace are really cool.

Blue Key Chain:

This piece ties into Jurassic World, as the quote on it references Blue the Raptor from the film. There's also a small Tyrannosaurus Rex charm on the side. On the flip side of the key chain is a raptor silhouette. The engravings are really clean and the black embossing helps make the letters clear. I'm not sure if I'll use this key chain since I'm not a huge fan of dinosaurs, but it is well-made.

T-Rex Earrings:

These earrings have tiny roaring T-Rexes on them. They're silver-colored and minimalistic in design. Like I said earlier, I'm not a big dinosaur fan, but any female dino fan would love these. One thing I have to note though is one of the dino charms popped off of its hook. I had to put it back on and squeeze the hook back to clinch it so it wouldn't come off again. As a jewelry maker myself, I would have chosen a different hook to use, one that's less likely to bend so easily.

Pterodactyl Studs:

I like these more than the T-Rex earrings because pterodactyls look more like dragons! These are also silver-colored with a minimalist design to match the T-Rexes. They have nice backings that won't slide off easily and I love their wings-spread pose.

"Amber" Ring:

This is based on John Hammond's famous amber cane. Though I think this is a very creative idea, I personally don't like the idea of wearing a mosquito on my finger because I hate mosquitoes. But out of this entire set, I'm most likely to wear this.

This box didn't get a squee out of me. The items are very creative, but I'm not a big fan of Jurassic Park, Jurassic World, or dinosaurs, so I don't see myself wearing most, if any, of this. This is probably one of my least favorite boxes, unfortunately. I'm sure next month's will be more up my alley!

This month's box is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time-themed and it includes:

Ocarina of Time Zipper Pouch:

This cloth zipper pouch has a simple loop for holding. It's the perfect size for change, credit cards, cash, and other small handbag items. This month's features a minimalist design of young Link and the titular Ocarina of Time. I love the simplicity of the design and the positioning of Link and the ocarina without either feeling crowded. I also like seeing Link's Deku shield.

Navi Magnet:

This 3 1/2" by 2" magnet is perfect for hanging pictures or important notes on your fridge or whiteboard. It has a glossy finish, which will protect it from water and stains. On this one we have our favorite fairy companion Navi with her infamous line "Hey listen!!!" I like that she's on a simple black background that makes her look like she's almost glowing.

Song of Time Necklace:

This silver- and gold-colored necklace has a tiny ocarina and the actual pattern of the Song of Time from the game! How creative is that? The little ocarina is very detailed, even with all of the holes in the right places. The notes for the Song of Time are arranged on the necklace in the right order and even the right heights from the pattern! The necklace does have a little weight to it, but I believe that'll help it from the annoying turning around to show the clasp on your neck.

Rupees Bracelet:

This is a simple silver chain with three rupees: the green worth one rupee, the blue worth five rupee, and the red worth twenty rupee for all of your Hyrule spending needs.

Triforce Studs:

These studs have a gold-colored base with little triangular yellow gems. They're definitely a girly take on the quintessential triforce of the game series.

Hyrulian Shield Ring:

This is my favorite item of the box! This ring is so detailed with all of the intricacies of the Hyrulian Shield, colored with blue and red resin. It also fit perfectly with no adjusting when I slipped it on, though it does have the option of being adjustable. The shield is the perfect size, not being too big to impair finger movement. I love it!

This has to be one of my favorite boxes I've ever received. I'll definitely use every item, and each of them is well-made and fashionable. It got a squee from me! This month's box is Pirates of the Caribbean-themed and it includes:

"Not All Treasure Is Silver and Gold, Mate" Zipper Pouch:

This cloth zipper pouch has a simple loop for holding. It's the perfect size for change, credit cards, cash, and other small handbag items. This month we have one of Jack Sparrow's most infamous quotes with an iron-on design of a treasure chest. Usually the designs are printed-on. One thing to take into consideration with iron-on designs is they will tend to crack with age. Maybe this one is of higher quality than what you can buy at the fabric store, but time will tell.

Pirate's Flag Magnet:

This 3 1/2" by 2" magnet is perfect for hanging pictures or important notes on your fridge or whiteboard. It has a glossy finish, which will protect it from water and stains. This is pretty straightforward. It's a design of the classic pirate's flag with perhaps a little bit more detail in the skull and crossbones than the average flag.

Anchor Necklace:

This is a very uniquely-designed necklace! Instead of the anchor being positioned straight down, it hangs on its side with two charms dangling on it, one being a simple compass and the other being a quote from Jack Sparrow: "I regret nothing. Ever." This is very pretty and could even be worn with business casual dress!

The Cursed Treasure of Cortez Earrings:

These are my favorite items of the box! They're designed to be replicas of the treasure stolen by Barbossa and his men in The Curse of the Black Pearl and they're the exact same shape and size as the actual coins from the movie. My only reservation is the earrings are a bit heavy so I, personally, won't be able to wear them for too long. All in all they're very clever, though.

Treasure Chest Ring:

Lastly, we have my second favorite item from the box. This ring is adjustable with intricate designs on the chest's lid. It also opens and seals magnetically. You're not getting this open unless it's intentional. Inside are tiny plastic gems! These are not glued on, so they will fall out if you're not careful. One fell out when I first opened it because I didn't know what was inside, but I picked it up and replaced it. Overall, it's a very cute idea!

I'm not as big of a fan of Pirates of the Caribbean as others and some of the item designs could have their drawbacks, but overall this is a great little box and I'll definitely be wearing this jewelry over the summer and when I see the new Pirates of the Caribbean film! "To Boldly Go Where No One Has Gone Before" Zipper Pouch:

This cloth zipper pouch has a simple loop for holding. It's the perfect size for change, credit cards, cash, and other small handbag items. When I opened the box to see this, I got the biggest grin on my face! I'm a huge Star Trek fan, and to have an item with one of my favorite quotes of all time filled me with excitement. I noticed they changed the quote from "no man" to "no one." I think they did this because of this subscription box's female audience. I love that they included the Starfleet symbol, the Enterprise, and a phaser on the design!

"Live Long and Prosper" Magnet:

This 3 1/2" by 2" magnet is perfect for hanging pictures or important notes on your fridge or whiteboard. It has a glossy finish, which will protect it from water and stains. This month's features one of the most characteristic quotes from the original series, "Live long and prosper." I was ecstatic when I saw this. I also love that the magnet has Spock's colors, including the similar shirt design and even the science division symbol!

Bat'leth Necklace:

Unlike the previous item, this piece of jewelry is from The Next Generation. This is a Klingon weapon called the bat'leth. Mr. Worf keeps one in his room and uses it several times in the show. The blade has such a neat design that even if you don't know what it is, it's still a beautiful pendant.

"I Have Been and Always Shall Be Your Friend" Friendship Bracelets:

I'm going to be honest. I almost cried when I saw these. These faux leather cord bracelets with push-in clasps each carry half a hand in the Vulcan greeting position and half of one of the most touching quotes from Star Trek: "I have been and always shall be your friend."

There is no better piece of jewelry to use this phrase with. One of my favorite parts about Star Trek is that friendship is one of the key themes, friendship despite differences in personality, beliefs, and races, friendship that transcends hardships and may end in sacrifice. Spock utters this phrase to Kirk in The Wrath of Khan, and this scene is paralleled in Into Darkness. It's such a meaningful quote to be shared between two friends. I remember when Leonard Nimoy died while I was at a conference and we played the scene from Wrath of Khan in memory of him. The other half of this bracelet will surely be worn by a treasured friend.

USS Enterprise and Galileo Shuttlecraft Studs:

These metal studs are so intricately designed! I love all of the details. They're a little heavy, but I like that they're mismatched. Mismatched earrings are very in right now, and I'm with the trend, so I'm entirely pleased to have another awesome pair!

Geordi La Forge Glasses Ring:

This is just too creative. I was absolutely blown away by this. This ring is based on the design of Mr. La Forge's glasses from The Next Generation. He's technically blind, but he uses these glasses to see the world using infrared and other modes of sight. The glasses work absolutely perfectly as a ring! It's also fully adjustable!

This box almost made me cry in joy! It's gotten the most reaction out of me since The Lord of the Rings box I got last year! I'm going to wear all of this jewelry. This month's box is The Little Mermaid-themed and it includes:

"Look at this Stuff" Pouch:

It seems that the zipper pouch is here to stay! Yay! Instead of the previous years' cinch pouch, the boxes are now including a zipper pouch with a loop for holding. This pouch is the perfect size for change, credit cards, cash, and other small handbag items. On this one is a beautiful coral ring with the quote, "Look at this stuff. Isn't it neat?" As soon as I opened the box and saw this, I smiled. It was the perfect quote to put on this pouch. Love it!

Flounder Magnet:

This 3 1/2" by 2" magnet is perfect for hanging pictures or important notes on your fridge or whiteboard. It has a glossy finish, which will protect it from water and stains. This month's features Flounder, our adorable fishy friend. The design is very simple: just a minimalist drawing of flounder in front of a green background.

Golden Shell Choker:

Chokers are back in, y'all! This makes me so happy! I adore this choker. It's a velvet ribbon with a golden chain and a lobster claw clasp. Then the pendant is the golden shell that Ursula traps Ariel's voice inside. So clever! 

This necklace is very elegant and is even appropriate for formal wear. I'm definitely wearing this the next time I go to a formal event.

The Little Mermaid Charm Bracelet:

This is an Alex and Ani-style bracelet with five charms: a ship, a fork (aka dinglehopper), "Part of Your World" charm, a mermaid from the back, and a pin with beads. 

The ship symbolizes Eric's ship, and the beads are Ariel's colors: red, purple, and green. I love the inclusion of the dinglehopper. I chuckled when I saw it. This bracelet is absolutely adorable.

Purple Seashell Studs:

These studs are so charming! The seashells are very detailed and match Ariel's top.

Mermaid Scales Studs:

The scale studs are so shiny, and I love the texture. They also shift from green to blue depending on the light.

Ursula Tentacles Ring:

This is my other favorite item from this box. This ring is just too cool. This has to be one of my favorite rings that I own now. The tentacles appear to be wrapping around your finger, and I love the bumpy texture of the suction cups. I have fairly large fingers and this ring was a bit small for my ring finger, but it fits well on my pointer finger. Regardless, it's a fantastic ring design.

Droid #Squad Zipper Pouch:

Instead of the regular cinch pouch, this month includes a zipper pouch with a loop for holding. This pouch is the perfect size for change, credit cards, cash, and other small handbag items. I personally like this better than the cinch pouch, and I love C-3PO, R2-D2, and BB-8 being on it with #Squad. I smiled when I saw this.

Princess Leia Magnet:

This 3 1/2" by 2" magnet is perfect for hanging pictures or important notes on your fridge or whiteboard. It has a glossy finish, which will protect it from water and stains.This is a simple Princess Leia design. Nostalgia and a bit of sadness hit me when I opened the box to find this. It is a good tribute to Carrie Fisher, our favorite sci-fi princess.

Jedi Necklace:

This is such a simple and feminine idea for a necklace. The nifty cursive design of the Jedi pendent makes for easy hanging from the chain, and the green jewel the same color as a lightsaber was a nice touch. My only annoyance was I had to untangle this when I opened it from the package.

"The Force Is Strong with This One" Bracelet:

This is such a cool idea for a bracelet! I've never worn a bracelet like this, but I love anything made out of leather. The quote on the pendent made me smirk. 

The bracelet works like a belt that you have to wrap once around your wrist to fasten. I have large wrists so I have to fasten it near the last hole. This reminds me of a Jedi's belt.

Death Star Earrings:

Intricate and stylish Death Star earrings! These are simple dangle earrings perfect for seeing the next Star Wars film (or rewatching Rogue One if your emotions can handle it).

TIE Fighter Ring:

This is so cute, and I love the jewel for a stylish touch. It's a thicker and sturdier ring and maybe a bit masculine, but it reminds me a lot of the Sith, so it's perfect.

I'm not as big of a fan of Star Wars as others, but even this box made me squee a little bit. This jewelry is so feminine and stylish I can't help but like it.
