5 Things to Do When You've Fallen into a Showhole

Amazon Prime introduced a new term to us via one of their latest advertisements. What is this term? “Showhole.” It’s what happens when you finish all the available episodes of a show and you don’t know what to do next.

I’ve fallen into a showhole more times than I can count. It’s not a pleasant place to be in. What should you do when you’ve fallen into that place?

1. Be sad.

TV shows are kind of like our friends, especially if we’ve been watching them for seven seasons. You get attached to the characters, the plot lines, and the vibe of the show. So go ahead, be sad. You’ve just gone on an incredible television journey, and now it’s over.

2. Join the fandom.

Find some people who liked that show as much as you did. Look up pictures. Read fanfic. Reblog beautiful photosets on Tumblr. You may be done with the show, but there are ways to keep it alive.

3. Rewatch.

While it won’t be as magical as the first time or having new material to consume, you can always rewatch the show. You can rewatch the whole thing from the beginning or just select your favorite episodes. Trust me—you’ll pick up on things you never noticed the first time.

4. Try to do something else.

Now that you're no longer binging, you have time for other things. *shocked gasp* You can read! You can talk to people! You can even... go outside.

You could also crochet a giant sweater like the girl on the commercial. Whatever works.

5. Ask around.

Chances are, you’ll be trying to figure out what to watch next. Ask your friends for recommendations (or check out our recommendations). The nice thing about television shows are that there are so many of them (though I get it—those shows will never be exactly the same as the one you’ve just finished). Take your time, but once you feel ready to move on…

6. Rinse and repeat.

The fortunate/unfortunate thing about being a fangirl is that we do fall in love with so many TV shows. That’s the beauty of it: we get to enjoy so much good television. What a time to be alive.

Unfortunately, eventually you’ll finish a TV show and fall into a showhole all over again. But when you do, come back for this list. It’ll be waiting.

What do you do when you’ve fallen into a showhole?

  1. I fell into a showhole when I finished season four of Once Upon a Time. Lost and Alias have been tiding me over until Netflix gets season 5, though. Of course, at the rate I've been blazing through those.... I may get to be in a triple showhole. How... terrifying. XP

    Fun list! :)
