5 Reasons Why You Should Read Morgan Matson’s Books

One year ago as of this September, I was flying across the country from Colorado to Oregon. During my visit, I was able to set foot into Powell's, the infamous Portland bookstore. I mostly bought books I'd already read before and knew I loved, but my one "guilty" purchase was Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson. That book may be single-handedly responsible for reminding me how much I love reading and how much I love YA, and it's been days full of reading ever since. Following SYBG, I picked up Amy and Roger's Epic Detour and The Unexpected Everything this summer. I'm here to tell you why you should read at least one of Morgan Matson's books if you haven't already!

1. They're filled with summer vibes

Whether you're looking for a read for your summer vacation or you're holed up in a snowstorm missing summer, Morgan Matson will deliver a book that makes you feel like you're in the midst of an amazing, adventurous summer.

2. They're adorable.

Morgan Matson's books are just plain adorable. Usually they have romances, and they have all sorts of feel-good fluffy scenes in them.

3. They're well-written.

But just because her books have fluffy scenes, that doesn't mean they won't break your heart! The feels are immense, and the prose is really beautiful. Morgan Matson sweeps you away to another place and another character's life, which is impressive. Her books also have important things to say, and we get to see her characters complete a journey.

“Tomorrow will be better.”
“But what if it’s not?” I asked.
“Then you say it again tomorrow. Because it might be. You never know, right? At some point, tomorrow will be better.”

4. They have wonderful characters.

Morgan Matson has the ability to write real, relateable heroines... and lovable, swoon-worthy love interests. The relationships she writes are so captivating, and so is her characterization. It doesn't just extend to the main characters, either--often her secondary characters are just as developed and wonderful as the leads.

5. They're an adventure.

Each book of Morgan Matson's, but especially SYBG and Amy and Roger, contain an adventurous vibe that makes me want to seize the day.

While I love reading action and adventure set in other worlds, Morgan Matson's type of adventure is especially exciting because it takes place in the contemporary world, which means it could actually happen to me. Not only that, but I feel like it did happen to me. A book that provides me with a beautiful, adventurous experience is a gift beyond words.

Have you read any of Morgan Matson's books? Do you have a favorite?
