Cloak and Dagger: The Best Marvel Duo Out There

There are many little-known superheroes and superhero teams, but my all-time favorite is the Cloak and Dagger duo. If you don't believe me, take a look at my Cloak and Dagger collection - modest, but growing at every opportunity. Usually when talking about Marvel with a friend - even a Marvel nerd - I mention Cloak and Dagger and I'm met with a blank stare and, "Who?" [They also occasionally think I'm referring to the eighties movie. I assure you, the two are completely unrelated.]

They're an usual duo - two teenagers made of opposites. Opposite backgrounds, opposites appearances, opposite personalities, and opposite powers. Cloak was once a boy from the ghetto, born as poor as is possible to be, athletic but bitter. Dagger was rich and naïve, born into wealth but running away to an unfamiliar place with hopes of a new life. The only thing that could have crossed their paths was a kidnapping - where, along with a handful of other teenagers, they were illegally tested for pharmaceutical drugs. They were the only ones to survive, but they survived with unexpected side effects - Dagger feeds from light and goodness, and can throw 'light-daggers.' They're what they sound like - knives of pure light. Cloak (called so because - you guessed it, he wears a cloak) contains the vastness of nothing inside his cloak, a huge void that swallows up anyone he captures. They feed on light and darkness, respectively, and act as vigilantes, attempting to protect other teenagers from the evils that run rampant on city streets.

They have my favorite dynamic of any superhero duo. They are complete and true opposites who compliment each other in every way. They are everything to each other - family, friends, guardians, voices of reason. [And I happen to ship it to infinity and beyond.] If you want a relationship that is unique, complex, tender, contrasting, emotional, and supportive, look no further.

  1. This is so crazily similar to an idea I've been kicking around in my head for a couple super-hero type characters. How did this happen. O.O

I have encountered them briefly in a Runaways comic, but I had no clue of their depth or opposite-ness from that. I need more. o.o
