The Five W's of Disney's The Jungle Book

WHAT is this film about?

The Jungle Book is an all-new live-action epic adventure about Mowgli, a man-cub who's been raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan, who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat. Urged to abandon the only home he's ever known, Mowgli embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery, guided by panther-turned-stern mentor Bagheera, and the free-spirited bear Baloo. Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who don't exactly have his best interests at heart, including Kaa, a python whose seductive voice and gaze hypnotizes the man-cub, and the smooth-talking King Louie, who tries to coerce Mowgli into giving up the secret to the elusive and deadly red flower: fire. ~Disney Wiki

WHO is cast in this film?

Newcomer Neel Sethi stars as Mowgli, while the rest of the cast consists of mostly big name Hollywood stars.   The beloved Bill Murray plays our favorite bear, Baloo.   (You can see Sethi and Murray sing "The Bare Necessities" on Jimmy Kimmel Live here.)   I'm excited to see Murray play this fun-loving character!   Ben Kingsley (who has starred in several great movies such as Hugo, Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, and Iron Man 3) plays Bagheera, the black panther who tries to protect Mowgli.   Some other cast members include Idris Elba as Shere Kahn (I am not done fangirling over this), Scarlet Johansson as Kaa, Lupita Nyong'o as Raksha, and Giancarlo Esposito as Akela.

WHY should you watch this?

Um, because IDRIS ELBA IS PLAYING SHERE KHAN?!?!?!?!?   That's reason enough for me!   But seriously, it definitely deserves your watch.   The first Jungle Book film was much beloved by Disney fans everywhere.   If you haven't watched any Disney remakes yet, this would be a great place to start.   The casting looks amazing, the visuals are spectacular, and Baloo.   Anything involving Baloo has to be good, right?

  1. I AM SO EXCITED TO SEE THIS. I think they have a great cast lined up, and I think of all the live-action Disney films to improve on, this is the one that looks like it might actually be better than the original.
